Practical guide

Pixelate an image without losing its character

Pixelation turns an image into coloured squares. The right settings preserve important shapes while preparing a design suited to your time and materials.

Prepare your project, then put it into practice.

Step / 01

Import a suitable image

Choose a drawing, photo or silhouette. Frame the subject before choosing a detail level. Complex backgrounds are harder to simplify.

Step / 02

Adjust pixelation

Compare a simple pattern with a more detailed one. Check whether important shapes remain recognisable. Choose a format that suits your piece.

Step / 03

Work on colours and contrast

Change settings gradually. Check highlights, shadows and outlines after each adjustment. Adapt colours to your materials.

Step / 04

Finish in the editor

Refine details pixel by pixel, then prepare your export. The web tool is available from the Pixelation page; the Android app also lets you prepare and track projects.
